Great Speakers: Aaron Sorkin at Syracause

sorkinAs a reader of this blog there’s a good chance  you spent the early part of this century desperate for the next episode of The West Wing. Much smarter critics than I have  written  about this ground breaking game changing  paradigm shifting series (or 7  to be exact)  so I won’t waste  neurones (yours or mine) by trying to add anything.  Trained as a playwright, the writer Aaron Sorkin has changed the way dialogue  (and monologue) work in modern TV and film.  We have lapped up A  Few  Good Men,   The Social Network,  Studio 60 (mwah mwah) Newsroom (Series 2 starts soon) and that delicious cameo on 30 Rock.  It is  therefore  a delight   to  find something new from Sorkin.  His commencement speech at his alma mater is over a year old, but I’ve only just found it.

“Develop your own compass, and trust it. Take risks, dare to fail, remember the first person through the wall always gets hurt.” Great advice.
